How to choose and brief a shop that machines Invar

A shop that says it can machine Invar has usually cut a nickel alloy at some point. That is not the same as knowing where stress relief happens, how thin sections are held and where and at what temperature a part is measured. The difference shows up weeks later as a part that no longer fits.

These guides give you the questions that separate the two, the checklist for an RFQ that gets comparable quotes and the paperwork to ask for once a shop is chosen. They are written for engineers and buyers, and they do not promote any particular shop.
